Kidnapping the Bride
In many small villages throughout Germany, there is a strange tradition of bride kidnapping, in which friends of the bride and groom kidnap the bride and hide her somewhere. The groom then has to search to find her. The search always begins in the local pub, for obvious reasons, where the groom will invite everyone to join him in the search, after buying them all a drink.
According to details, mostly this traditions ends in a very bad way, because most groom don’t like this type of bride kidnapping tradition
Blacking the Bride and Groom
In Blacking the Bride and Groom or Blackening the Bride and Groom, anything which smells bad will be used to throw at bride and groom and some people also use bad smelling sauces. Spoiled milk and rotten eggs are often used as well. The bride and groom is then parade up and down the main street of town for all to see.
This blacking tradition takes place in Scotland. There are some blacking tradition who hold that bride is blackened and some say it is the groom, however in all the blacking traditions , the final act of the blackening is to tar the victim with molasses and douse them with feathers.
Log Sawing
A Tradition called “Sawing” is a very interesting German marriage tradition, which really tests the bride and groom’s physical skills. A log is positioned between two sawhorses where both the newlywed couples must saw in half working together.
The amount of difficulty they have is supposed to be indicative of what kind of marriage they will enjoy together. If they can work together and get the job done with relative ease, they will have a happy marriage. If not, they will have a rocky one.
Kissing by Guests
At Swedish wedding receptions, guests get an opportunity to kiss the bride or groom.
If the bride goes to the restroom, all of the women at the reception line up to kiss the groom and if the groom exits the room and is out of sight, the men line up to kiss the bride.
Clanging Pots and Pans
There is a very interesting wedding tradition in France, which is known as French Chiverie, during this tradition, friends and family of the newly married couple gather in the evening and clang pots and pans, ring bells, and blow horns intended to startle and interrupt the couple; The wedding couple comes out after hearing these noises, still wearing their wedding attire, and provide their tormenters various refreshments.
